Emergency Room Privatization IHC's initial assignment was a financial feasibility study of the impact of privatization of the physician component of Emergency Room services at St. Mary and St. Francis hospitals, with a combined annual volume of 40,000 visits. This study involved a review of volume, payer mix, physician staffing levels and salaries, malpractice expenses, physician coding and productivity, registration procedures and other relevant operating costs. Additionally, a break-even report with a sensitivity analysis and a multi-year forecast was developed. Based on these analyses, BSCPC made the decision to privatize emergency room services. |

The purpose of this assignment was to ensure that all services performed by salaried physicians were captured and billed. The project consisted of a comprehensive physician analysis and credentialing, the development of a charge system, and the implementation of the CBO. |
